Margaret Vanamringe has over 40 years working experience in the areas of public policy, quality and safety measurement in healthcare, government relations, and public health issues. She currently consults in the health care arena and is a guest lecturer at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. Most recently, she was the Executive Vice President for Public Policy and Federal Relations at The Joint Commission, where she created and ran their Washington, D.C. based office from 1993-2023. The Joint Commission’s Washington, D.C. office is its interface with the federal government agencies, Congress, and D.C. based professional and advocacy groups.
At the Joint Commission she was responsible for developing strategic opportunities with the public and private sectors and helped to significantly grow the number of the Joint Commission’s federally and professionally recognized accreditation and certification programs. In addition to strengthening The Joint Commission’s work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, she took a lead role in emerging policy and public health issues including infection control and prevention; stroke; antibiotic stewardship; emergency management; cybersecurity; quality measurement; and improving quality oversight in the areas of mental health, disabilities, and orthopedics. She served as a liaison member to the CDC’s Health Care Infection and Prevention Advisory Group and as a Board member of the American Joint Replacement Registry.
